Can I send in a birthday treat for my child?
Birthdays are special for young children and feel free to send in a treat to help celebrate. Please let me know prior to when you are bringing in the snack so I can plan for this special occasion during the day. As of the beginning of the school year we have 27 students in our class, but planning for a few extras is always a good idea. (You never know when one may get dropped!)
Also, please contact me for any food allergies. Please do not send party invitations to school unless the entire class is invited. We appreciate your sensitivity.

How much homework will my child have?
Every evening students will be expected to read 15 minutes in "Just Right" books. They will need to complete a reading response about their reading. Your child will also have around 5 minutes of Word Study homework each night including the final written word sort (which may take slightly longer). Math facts should also be practiced for about 10 minutes each night and a math sheet will be included in the homework as well. Your child needs to be working on the math facts he or she is currently working on for the 95 High Club. Math facts are referred to as basic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) with single digits from 0-9 (addition and multiplication), minuends from 0-18 (subtraction), and dividends from 1-100 with NO REMAINDERS (division).
How will my child be evaluated?
The evaluation tools are selected on the basis of the appropriateness for the concept that is taught. Teacher observation, oral assessments, projects or reports, rubrics, anecdotal records, conferences with students, open-ended question responses, class participation, and performance are examples of evaluation tools that may be used. District Assessments or unit assessments will be given at the end of a unit in all subjects. Re-teaching and re-testing strategies are used to remediate and strengthen weaknesses.

- Normally each month I will send home various book orders. The book clubs have different names but there is one parent company-Scholastic Books. Please make your checks payable to Scholastic Books. There is no need to write different checks for different clubs, they all go together so one check will work great.
- Use the information below to access the Scholastic Book Clubs website. Browse the titles with your child and place your order with your credit card. Your order will come to me and your credit card payment goes directly to Scholastic's SECURE server. No need to send any money into school.
